Anders als viele andere Genrevertreter spielt X-Out nicht im Weltall, sondern unter Wasser – eine interessante Designentscheidung, die sich auch auf Grafik und Spielmechanik auswirkt. Die düstere, bedrohliche Atmosphäre des Spiels wird durch die untermalende Musik und das detaillierte Hintergrunddesign verstärkt.

The player takes on the role of an elite submarine commander who unexpectedly has to defend against an alien invasion from the depths of the ocean. However, the underwater combat environment is anything but monotonous – it quickly becomes clear that every decision counts. In the end, the question remains: will you succeed in stopping the alien threat and saving humanity?

X-Out: Resurfaced is a successful remake of the classic side-scrolling shooter by Rainbow Arts, now re-released for PC and current consoles with a modern yet nostalgic charm. It combines retro gameplay with fresh features such as tactical fleet management, ruthless action, and atmospheric sound design. You control an individually equippable submarine and dive into eight diverse levels full of alien battles, powerful bosses, and various power-ups. In the redesigned shop function, you can optimize your equipment, test new load-outs, and thus significantly vary the gameplay.

A special highlight is the local 2-player couch co-op mode – in a team with a friend, the fight against the strange deep-sea threat becomes even more intense. For professional players, there is also the “Mirror Mode,” where the levels are mirrored, providing an additional challenge.
